Marilyn Monroe at Jones Beach, 1949
Starting in the 1950s, photographer Philippe Halsman asked his subjects to jump for him, arguing that by jumping, and losing some control, they’d give more of themselves away than if they’d just be sitting or standing.
Sitters, or rather jumpers, included Marilyn Monroe, Brigitte Bardot, Richard Nixon, Audrey Hepburn, and the Duke and Duchess of Windsor. I’ve posted the Nixon one before.
These are Marilyn Monroe’s shots–she jumped twice: in 1954 (last image), and in 1959.

Oh, and Jane Russell too.

(The quality of the 2nd image is poor but not including it obviously isn’t an option.)
